Distance-- with these is very good. I've run both hot and cold with Callaway Fairway metals over the years. I still carry a set of the old "Steelhead Plus" models that were quite possibly some of the best fairway metals ever built by any company. These are definitely longer than my old and aging hot rods, and they run with some of the hottest fairway metals on the market, so there's no question that they get the job done in this arena.
Balance and Feel-- is roughly a four out of five star feel here. The forged composite crown is a far cry from the earlier versions of carbon topped fairway metals stamped out by the likes of Cleveland, Cobra, and Nickent. None-the-less, they still have a very slight thuddiness at impact reminiscent of the old Nickent Cross fairway woods. (Funny, Nickent used a tie in with Lamborghini as their claim to carbon composities as well.) These are definitely balanced better than earlier versions, so there is not that vagueness of club head location during the backswing that all too often accompanied earlier versions of carbon crowned fairway metals.
Overall-these are well above average fairway metals. they are availabe in Strong 3 Wood/13*, Regular 3 Wood/15*, 5 Wood/18*, and 7 Wood/21* versions. I think it's nice to see the 7 Wood make a come back. On days when my 5 Iron is off, that 7 Wood feels just right. As far as this year's models from Callaway goes, these Fairway metals get the nod from me as opposed to the Diabloe's. They just seem to feel as if a little more thought went into their manufacture.
